We’re not naive to the fact that everyone doesn’t struggle with New York City winters, like us. In fact a large part of the world is enjoying a warm holiday season, with temperatures in the 80s and a stretch of beach to their disposal.

And yet, the motivation to workout is still a struggle with shopping, cooking and holiday parties serving as hefty distractions.

For a little direction on how to stay motivated during a warm winter, we spoke to pro surfer and NSSA Open Womens Division champion Tia Blanco. “Chilly morning surf sessions, or workout sessions in general, are sometimes not very motivating,” she said. “Nonetheless, every wave is different and is a new opportunity for you to surf it differently. That is what motivates me when it’s cold.”

Blanco, who’s also a Reef brand ambassador, suggests a mix of indoor and outdoor activities that she enjoys herself:

1. Try Yoga. It’s an incredible way to stretch and tone you muscles.
2. Running on the beach is so peaceful and great for the body.
3. Squats before bed while playing your favorite music are easy and fun.
4. Meditating is probably the hardest exercise of them all! Mastering this will lead to so many different benefits mentally and physically.
5. Hiking with friends is a fun way to get active, and is a beautiful experience.

In addition to trying these exercises, Blanco suggests eating as raw as possible, drinking water constantly and making a green smoothie every morning.
