Zimmerman Fight Called Off After Martin Family Refuses Donation

It looks like the George Zimmerman “celebrity era” has come to a swift end after the family of the teenage boy he shot and killed intervened on the matter.  After his initial “Celebrity Boxing” match vs DMX was cancelled due to its promoter receiving some very serious death threats against himself and his family, it was then picked up by FilmOn.com CEO Alki David, who planned to resume with the Zimmerman fight as planned.  However, Alki didn’t want to include DMX, but rather have Zimmerman fight multiple opponents of a higher profile in what was described as “Fight Club” style bare-knuckle brawls.  All of the income generated from viewer payments, would then be donated to the Trayvon Martin Foundation.

But alas, there’s where Mr. David met a roadblock he could not overcome.  As it turns out, the Trayvon Martin family has decided that they would not be accepting any donations made from David that have been produced from supporting violence.  The Trayvon Martin Foundation informed TMZ that it “stands boldly against any act of violence,” so any and all of David’s potential donations will automatically be shot down.

Thankfully, Alki David understands the family’s feelings regarding the matter and will not seek to push any further towards making the fight become a reality.  “I respect the wishes of the family and in light of this we are canceling the event,” he reported to TMZ.  Looks like Zimmerman will have to look to gain positive public recognition in another way.

How do you feel about the official cancellation of the fight?
