No Boundary, No Limits: The HCC Experience Ignites Oakland’s Creative Scene

Fashion, music, and culture came together in a powerful celebration of creativity as the Church of Fashion House of Culture & Creativity (HCC Experience) introduced its nonprofit platform with the No Boundary Fashion Mixer at Summer Bar & Lounge in Oakland, California

The event marked the official launch of the Bay Area-based nonprofit founded by Shemicka “Meeka Starr” Johnson and Naldirah “Dutchess” Bolden. Created to uplift creatives and provide meaningful opportunities within the arts, the organization aims to bridge fashion, music, and culture while cultivating a collaborative environment where artists can grow, connect, and thrive.

At the center of the vision is Shemicka “Meeka Starr” Johnson, whose work as a designer and creative has been rooted in pushing boundaries and redefining self-expression through fashion. As the creative force behind the experience, Johnson not only brought her artistic perspective to the runway through her brand but also played a pivotal role behind the scenes in shaping the event’s flow and energy. She was instrumental in coordinating the run of show, working closely with performers, the host, and the DJ to ensure seamless transitions throughout the night. Her ability to merge creative direction with live production reflects a multidimensional approach to artistry, one that goes beyond design and into experience-building.

Through her work, Johnson continues to challenge traditional ideas of fashion by transforming it into a platform for storytelling, identity, and cultural expression. Her designs reflect bold individuality while her leadership reflects intention and vision, creating spaces where creativity can thrive without limitation. As she continues to expand her impact, Johnson is not only designing garments but also shaping experiences, building platforms, and emerging as a visionary voice within the next wave of fashion and culture.

Alongside her is Naldirah “Dutchess” Bolden, a respected figure in the Bay Area fashion scene whose experience as a model and creative leader has helped lay the foundation for the HCC Experience. Bolden has spent years immersed in the fashion industry, building her presence on runways and within creative spaces across the region. Her passion for mentorship and community development played a key role in the event’s execution, as she worked closely with emerging models, many of whom were stepping onto the runway for the first time. Her ability to guide, uplift, and develop new talent reflects the organization’s commitment to creating real opportunities for growth within the creative community. Bolden’s presence throughout the night, both on and off the runway, reinforced her role not only as a leader but as a driving force in cultivating confidence and professionalism in the next generation of creatives.

The No Boundary Fashion Mixer was designed as both a celebration of Black culture and creative expression and an introduction to the HCC Experience’s vision of building platforms for independent artists. The evening brought together designers, models, musicians, entrepreneurs, and creatives from across the Bay Area for a vibrant night of networking, runway presentations, and live performances.

Guiding the evening was host Carmen Grayson, a respected public relations professional known for her work with major artists and corporate brands. Grayson led guests through a dynamic program that blended fashion and music while keeping the energy high throughout the night.

One of the evening’s standout moments came when Shemicka “Meeka Starr” Johnson presented pieces from her fashion brand X Lab3lles by Meeka Starr. Known for transforming garments into bold, one-of-a-kind designs, Johnson showcased a collection that reimagined professional wear with a daring and expressive twist. Structured silhouettes were paired with striking styling, reflecting her belief that fashion is both empowering and a form of storytelling.

The runway also featured a strong lineup of independent designers whose work highlighted the diversity of the Bay Area’s fashion scene. Designers included A Grape Clothing, Brickhouse Accessories, Gradin Creations, Lay Low Boss Up, and Unseen Femme, each presenting unique collections that reflected their individual artistic voices.

Music played an equally important role in shaping the atmosphere of the night. The event opened with Bay Area rapper LG Royal, setting the tone for a high-energy evening. Guests were also treated to performances from Neah Rose, whose soulful vocals captivated the audience.

Additional performances from Our Block Entertainment artists Untamed DZD, YFSN Whipp, and SD Musiick kept the momentum going, while OKe MC Fly delivered an energetic performance that further elevated the night’s excitement.

Providing the soundtrack for the evening was DJ Cali Franco, whose mix of hip-hop and R&B kept the crowd vibing while guests networked, celebrated, and connected throughout the venue.

A powerful moment of the night came when Naldirah “Dutchess” Bolden walked the runway while also guiding emerging models making their runway debut, reinforcing her role as both a leader and a mentor within the creative community.

Behind the scenes, a talented beauty team helped bring the runway looks together. Hairstylist Jazmine Lee crafted styling that elevated the overall presentation while complementing each designer’s vision. Makeup artists Trena Katena and Zeltzin Lucas created polished beauty looks that enhanced the models’ features while allowing each collection’s aesthetic to shine.

The evening also highlighted local entrepreneurship with vendor Bead Infinite, who showcased handcrafted bead jewelry and accessories, adding another creative dimension to the event.

With a diverse audience of artists, creatives, and supporters filling the venue, the No Boundary Fashion Mixer proved a vibrant and inspiring start to the HCC Experience.

“The vision behind the HCC Experience is to create real platforms for creatives to be seen, supported, and celebrated,” said Shemicka “Meeka Starr” Johnson. “Fashion and music have always been powerful forms of expression, and bringing these communities together creates opportunities for artists to grow and inspire one another.”

“The Bay Area has incredible talent,” added Naldirah “Dutchess” Bolden. “Watching new models walk their first runway and seeing designers proudly present their work was truly inspiring. That’s what this is about: creating opportunities and building a strong creative community.”

As the evening came to a close, one thing was clear: the HCC Experience is more than an event series — it is the beginning of a creative movement. By bringing together fashion, music, and culture under one roof, the organization is building a platform where artists can collaborate, innovate, and celebrate their creativity without limits.

With the success of the No Boundary Fashion Mixer, the Church of Fashion House of Culture & Creativity has officially made its mark within the Bay Area’s creative landscape, and this is only the beginning.
