Mona Scott-Young Hosts the MPowered Mavericks Celebration Honoring Woman Trailblazers Who Are Shifting The Culture

  In honor of Women’s History Month, media entrepreneur and entertainment powerhouse Mona ScottYoung hosted the MPowered Mavericks Celebration this past weekend at the Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. Bringing together over 100 influential leaders across entertainment, politics, technology, and culture, this event sheds light on culture shifters that continue to reshape industries, expand opportunity, and embody the true spirit of a Maverick woman. Having found success in the entertainment business as a production mogul, Mona Scott Young is the definition of a phenomenal woman, who uses her success, and platform to shine a light on others. Curated by Scott-Young in collaboration with Kara Saun, Executive Producer at Sunset Pictures and Founder of The Fashion FairyGodmother, this event showcased the power of black women in Hollywood and why their legacies are relevant. “Our collective strength is our greatest asset,” Scott-Young shared during her opening remarks. “There is a unique power that happens when women building the future stand beside women who have already built the blueprint. Scott-Young did an amazing job of sparking conversations that challenge the status quo, expand possibilities, and create pipelines for the next generation.  Attendees enjoyed a curated cocktail program featuring the MPossible Margarita and the Maverick Martini crafted with Black Irish Cream Liqueur, the award-winning brand created by global music icon Mariah Carey. The spirits were served alongside Bartenura Wines and Vera Wang Party Prosecco and Rosé. On top of that, experiential activations included wellness services from mobile spa Manly Handz,  an unforgettable floral bar presented by celebrity makeup artist Juanice Reed and My Pretty Little Table, where guests had the opportunity to get hand made flower bouquets in honor of their achievements.  The distinguished guest list included civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, award-winning actress Lynn Whitfield, singer Chanté Moore, and actor Tyrese Gibson. Also in attendance were Grammy-winning songwriter and entrepreneur Kandi Burruss, legendary radio personality Heather B. of SiriusXM’s Sway in the Morning, fashion icon June Ambrose, actress LisaRaye McCoy, creative visionary Laurieann Gibson, and media personality Jason Lee. Notably, artist and former Leader of the Opposition in Belize, Shyne (Moses Barrow), was also present among the dynamic mix of cultural leaders. The 2026 Honorees  The celebration recognized six remarkable women whose leadership continues to influence culture, innovation, and community impact. See full list of honorees below.  Suzanne de Passe – Immortal Maverick Award: A legendary entertainment executive and producer who spent decades as an architect of the Motown legacy and became one of the first Black women to lead a major television production company.  Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett –  Vanguard Maverick Award: Representing Texas’ 30th Congressional District, Crockett has emerged as a fearless advocate for justice and equity in American politics.  Gabourey Sidibe – Fearless Maverick Award – Academy Award-nominated actress and author known for her breakthrough role in Precious and her commitment to bold storytelling and authentic representation.  April Showers – Magic Maker Maverick Award – Founder of the global brand Afro Unicorn, the first Black woman to own a fully licensed character brand found in more than 40,000 retail locations worldwide.  Raegan Brown – Emerging Maverick Award: Senior Creative Technologist at Magnopus, designing immersive experiences using VR, AR, and AI for giants like Disney, Meta, and Epic Games.  Kara Saun –  MPossible Maverick Award: Visionary creative leader and founder of The Fashion FairyGodmother, known for shaping the cultural universe of Disney’s Descendants franchise and co-curating the afternoon’s celebration. Mona Scott-Young continues to create spaces and opportunities for women to be seen, heard and appreciated at the high level. She is a true trailblazer and the definition of a maverick woman.
