Yesterday, we wrote about the crazy cover that Dazed debuted with the Rich Gang artist, Young Thug. Today, we follow that up with something that definitely makes sense — Amandla Stenberg.

Powerful, poignant, and right on time — the “New Agenda” issue stars The Hunger Games actress sporting the empowering words of Angela Davis written across her face. The fearless 16-year-old makes a great voice in a story that tackles the issues of cultural appropriation and Kylie Jenner.

Editor-in-Chief Isabella Burley described the piece as something “re-addresses what print stands for today.”

Outspoken and assured of where she is at and what she would like to accomplish in her life, the young lord said in the cover story, “I want to make things that have an impact on how we look at the world. I know it’s a tall glass to fill, but it’s a glass that really does need to be filled, as an African American woman.”

Most young Black women her age are deftly aware of what life is like for a “minority” in America as a teenager. Like Amandla, they have stood up and attempted to fight against the tyranny of racism and ignorance until the pressures of adulthood took hold. Stenberg, an avid student of history already so young in the game, shared her thoughts on being young, which she believes many are quick to dismiss.

“I think people discredit teenagers and how wise they can be,” she said. “Sometimes I meet teenagers who are much wiser than many adults I’ve met, because they haven’t let any insecurities or doubts about themselves get in the way of their thoughts.” Named for the Zulu word “power” — Amandla Stenberg is a force that is busy on-and-off the sets in Hollywood.

From her role as Halle Foster on Craig Robinson’s hit NBC show, Mr. Robinson, to performing in two indie films, Amandla has a bright career ahead of her. In lieu of finishing high school, she hopes to study under Spike Lee while hanging out with her friend Willow Smith.
