Billy Corgan and Marilyn Manson Hold Joint Press Conference

As previously announcedthe Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson are hosting a joint press conference tonight to discuss their upcoming End Times tour. That’s happening at 7:30 p.m. in Chicago. Watch The End Times Takeover: A Conversation With Billy Corgan and Marilyn Manson below.

The event is happening at the Virgin Hotel Chicago and is being livestreamed by the A.V. Club. The A.V. Club’s Marah Eakin Sean O’Neal is the moderator.

They announced plans to close the show with a joint cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”.

Corgan took umbrage with O’Neal’s introduction, where he said that they were both “weird” artists. “I disagree with the assertion of weird,” Corgan said. “I don’t think there’s anything weird about being an artist.”

They talked about falling out over Manson’s relationship with Rose McGowan. Manson also said, “Billy taught me to play guitar, so it’s his fault. You can blame him.” Corgan called Manson an “awful” guitar student. Of course, it’s water under the bridge—their rapport was all smiles during the press conference.

Corgan also took aim at nostalgia, calling bands’ “play the full record” shows “really fucking boring.” He added, “We wanted to tour together because it would be powerful.” Later, he turned to Manson and said, “I reject the generational malaise that believes that people like you and I can no longer make great music.” He also talked about hating “hipster culture” since the 1980s.

They talked about their previous plans to start a band together. The hypothetical band would be called “Fruity” (named for the way they felt on muscle relaxers) and they said Flavor Flav and Jenna Jameson would be members of the band.

“I tried to convince him to wear makeup and he tried to make me have more chords in my music,” Manson said of their friendship.

Corgan revealed that he’s considering making a film starring Manson. Also, at a couple points, Corgan squeaked a cat toy that Manson gifted him earlier that day.
