Cali Governor: We Need to Stay More Alert Than Potheads (@jerrybrowngov)

California is definitely one of those states you think of when it comes to relax weed laws and an overall accepting smoke culture. Well, California Governor Jerry Brown isn’t ready to commit to complete marijuana legalization just yet.

Appearing on Meet the Press, host David Gregory if legalizing marijuana was “a good idea or a bad idea for California?”, Brown replied that he would like to wait and see what happens in Colorado and Washington, two states that recently liberalized their marijuana laws.

“Well, we have medical marijuana, which gets very close to what they have in Colorado and Washington,” he said. “I’d really like those two states to show us how it’s going to work… “The problem with anything, a certain amount is okay. But there is a tendency to go to extremes. And all of a sudden, if there’s advertising and legitimacy, how many people can get stoned and still have a great state or a great nation? The world’s pretty dangerous, very competitive,” Brown explained. “I think we need to stay alert, if not 24 hours a day, more than some of the potheads might be able to put together.”

Clearly he doesn’t 100% oppose the idea, but fears there could eventually be too much of a good thing.

What do you think? What are the downsides of pot legalization? Leave your thoughts below?
