The star takes the reporter for the New York Times’s fashion magazine on a climb up the Sydney Harbor Bridge and discusses risks of a different type — in her career. “That’s the dangerous side,” she says of collaborating with other actors (next up: Rooney Mara in Carol). “You really don’t know where you’re going to go.”
And though she’s very aware of her place in the public eye (especially from her stint running the Sydney Theater Company), she says, “I learned to not feel responsible to other people’s perceptions of who you are … I suppose I’ve gone through a process of maturation, in a way, because running the company is a public position.”

Finally – what’s the one thing that can make even the serene Cate Blanchett shudder? Just call her a Hollywood actress. “That’s what they say about you when they want to insult you,” she says (Oscar for her Hollywood acting in Blue Jasmine aside, we guess).
