Exclusive: ‘Empire’ Starlet Serayah McNeill & Her Stylist Dish Their Fall Fashion Tips

Photo: Peter ParkTonight marks the highly anticipated return of Empire and although we look forward to seeing Cookie Lyon in all of her fur trimmed glory, it’s R&B songtress Tiana–played by the beautiful Serayah McNeill–that we’ll be checking for as her role is expanded in season 2.

“So far, she hasn’t been too moved into doing the shock value, but I think this season, she’s just very confident because she knows where she stands with the label,” Serayah tells us in an exclusive interview and photo shoot styled by Miquelle West and Jon Washington.

“She doesn’t need to impress anyone or be worried about her next move. It’s a really cool place for her to be in.” Unsurprisingly, the 20 year old’s career is mirroring Tiana’s as she preps an upcoming music project and builds a loyal fanbase.

A self proclaimed tomboy who describes her personal style as “edgy, chic…still evolving,” the “Bad Blood” baddie is not only learning from her fictional counterpart, but getting a front row lesson in fashion as well.

While rocking Tiana’s more revealing threads have boosted her confidence offset, designers like Tom Ford and Vera Wang are rounding out her eccentric taste that includes everything from bargain buys to pieces spotted during her first New York Fashion Week.

“I think the best part is being able to be up front and personal with all the pieces,” she says of the experience,” and the worst thing about it is just all the media that comes and crams the area, but it comes along with it.”

-Always Accessorize (“I think every girl should have a great pair of sunglasses and a nice hat for bad hair days,” says West.)

-Invest in a killer pair of shoes and turn heads.

-Mix high and low pieces. A nice pair a jeans paired with a tweed jacket. Tweed everything is trending this fall.

-Black represents power, so power dress in a LBD.

-A crisp white blouse looks “rich” dressed up or down. It’s the signature piece for Carolina Herrera, who exudes the luxurious life.

And don’t forget to start underneath. West cites Givenchy’s breathtaking Spring/Summer 2016 runway show as inspiration for wearing sexy undergarments this fall.

“I’m really big on lingerie. That’s where the foundation for women should start; your underwear.”
