Skilled hunter Melissa Bachman sparked outrage recently after she posted a photo of herself posing next to a dead male lion that she just killed. In the photo, which was posted on her Facebook profile and Twitter, Melissa can be seen sitting behind the downed lion smiling and holding a rifle. She has posted loads of hunting pictures on her social media accounts in the past as well as on her official website.
Melissa deactivated her Twitter account swiftly after a variety of backlash began to build up. The image was taken in South Africa and it even sparked an online petition requesting her be banned from returning to South Africa in the future. The petition gained its required 3,000 signatures and its creator, Elan Burman of Cape Town, freely voiced her opinion on Melissa being a negative influence on the culture of South Africa.
“She is an absolute contradiction to the culture of conservation this country prides itself on.”
