Janelle Monáe and Wondaland Records Share Protest Song "Hell You Talmbout"

Yesterday, Janelle Monáe and Jidenna led a march protesting police brutality in Philadelphia. Now, Monáe and her Wondaland Records imprint have released “Hell You Talmbout”, a moving protest song that features the entire Wondaland roster (Monáe, Jidenna, Roman GianArthur, Deep Cotton, St. Beauty, and George 2.0) taking turns chanting the names of black citizens killed by American police to the sound of a drum line. Listen to it above via Spin.

On Instagram, Monae shared a statement about the song:

This song is a vessel. It carries the unbearable anguish of millions. We recorded it to channel the pain, fear, and trauma caused by the ongoing slaughter of our brothers and sisters. We recorded it to challenge the indifference, disregard, and negligence of all who remain quiet about this issue. Silence is our enemy. Sound is our weapon. They say a question lives forever until it gets the answer it deserves… Won’t you say their names?

Monáe and the Wondaland roster are set to release their debut EP, The Eephus, tomorrow. They are also currently on tour, which you can find dates for here.
