Sarah Jessica Parker with bangs! Believe it. The actress (who never strays from her long, center-parted strands) sports fresh fringe on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar‘s October issue.

Shot by fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski, SJP playfully poses in a striped black-and-white Valentino midi dress, which she accessorized with a pair of her very own silver sparkly SJP Collection pumps and her long-layered bangs. (But don’t get too excited — the bangs are clip-ins. SJP has been out since her shoot, sans fringe.)
In the cover story, Parker, 50, chats about her most memorable red carpet moments, including her signature show-stopping headpieces. When asked about the red flame-inspired Philip Treacy number she wore to this year’s Met Gala, the actress was surprised to learn how quickly the accessory instantly became an Internet sensation, along with Rihanna‘s jaw-dropping Guo Pei dress.
“My son was like, ‘Mom, you’re a meme,” she told the mag. “I didn’t know what a meme was! I never got far enough from the headpiece to get that it would be seen as flames.”
But she adds she wouldn’t mind sharing breakfast with RiRi — just maybe not on the red carpet: “I would have an egg with [Rihanna] anytime.”

And speaking of her family, SJP credits social media for helping her and her husband of 18 years, Matthew Broderick, feel more connected with their fans.
“My husband and I are genuinely surprised that we feel more public now than we have ever felt,” she said. “It’s social media. Of course, when you work in TV or film, there is a familiarity, so you reconcile that. But the show has been off the air a long time now. You are not ever alone. You are not ever, ever, ever, ever alone.”

Parker also admits that she never feels alone in her beloved city, N.Y.C., either. In fact, she says she’s still in awe of the fast-paced, crazy town and is proud to have rooted her family in the middle of it.
“I love the city. I love everything it has to offer,” she confessed. “I think that my children are so lucky to be raised here. I love the subway, I love hailing a cab, I love traffic and people and all of the possibilities. I believe in all of that still.”
