Have you ever wondered what shade of lipstick someone online was wearing? Sephora just made it easier to find out that shade with their new Pinterest-like social shopping platform, Beauty Board.

The platform launched early this morning and its hope is to connect user-generated content to its vast catalogue of products and make it that much easier to find out the exact makeup colors and brands people are wearing. Users can upload their beauty and hair looks and can tag the products their wearing so that when another user sees the photo and wants to get the same exact eye shadow, they can with ease. Users can also include product reviews and comments about the products they’re wearing and how they used them so there is a better chance that you can tell if a product will work for you or not.

What’s even more amazing is that Beauty Board will be accessible through not only mobile, tablet and desktop, it will also be accessible through a tab labeled “Inspire Me” on the Sephora homepage. When you’re logged in to your Sephora account, you will have the ability to look for images of people who have similar skin types and eye color since that is information Sephora saves when you sign up.

Bridget Dolan, vice president of interactive media at Sephora, told Fashionista, “Sephora is really focused on bringing content into commerce, and we really think that [people] want a visual proof point [of how a product looks on].”

This is a really good look Sephora and as UGC gets more popular with retailers, we see this becoming a wildly successful idea.
