The war on drugs is questionable in itself, but targeting mentally handicapped kids seems inexcusable. An undercover drug operation in Temecula Valley, California targeted special needs students, most of them having nothing to do with drugs until the officers manipulated them. In this specific case, one child, diagnosed with a variety of mental disorders, was elated to find he made a new friend. He was equally crushed when that friend turned out to be an undercover officer, only interested in arresting him. The child was arrested, in class, in front of all his classmates.
“We felt like our family was totally violated by the sheriff’s department and the school district,” said Doug and Catherine Snodgrass.
