Interview: Get to know Jetset Da Future

Published

Jetset Da Future

Atlanta’s own Dontavius Linwood, also known as Jetset Da Future, is gaining traction and making a name for himself in the city. The rising emcee describes his music as a “chill lofi and R&B sound,” because of his melodic, smooth melodies that have a unique added element to them.

During an interview, Jetset Da Future remembered when he took music more seriously, stating it was around his senior year of high school when he did a freestyle at his pep-rally. He also remembered his brother complimenting him on his bars during a freestyle, which also helped motivate him to pursue a career in music.

“I also made a song using Mac Miller’s ‘Diablo’ beat and my brother gassed me up on my bars,” he said.

Jetset said in the interview that “music is a universal language,” and that it’s helped him through some tough times.

“It has helped me express my love for myself and others around me,” he said.

Further, Jetset is inspired by iconic artists such as Sade, Koji Kondo, Michael Jackson, Wiz Khalifa, Doja Cat, Amerie, Missy Elliot, Anita Baker, Nujabes, Cibo Matto, Hideki Naganuma. Noting his sound is also influenced by video games, his inspirations are not limited to the list above, and you can hear that in his music.

Jetset Da Future says he is on the move to make more music, expected to drop a collaboration project with Atlanta DJ YinWiz this year and several singles. Jetset Da Future released a few stand-out singles including,  “Jet Skiii,” “WiFi LuV,” and “Aye Eye I.”

B.V.M – “Unrecognizable” (Single/Video) @BLACKVMALE

My upcoming EP is called Love and Pain. It’s about working out the balance between nurturing a relationship with someone I love while pushing forward with my ambitions in music. The project was created with a guerrilla style approach during the pandemic. The isolation occurred at the same time that I was going through a break up so I created three songs that speak to the love I had and three more about dealing with the loss.” – B.V.M
