Prophete Lets His Haitian Roots Speak On “Daniel II Prophete”

Home isn’t always a place on the map; sometimes it’s a language, a guitar melody, or a rhythm that reminds you where you come from. Prophete, born Daniel Denis Prophete, brings those connections together on his twelve-track debut. Daniel II Prophete is an exploration of Haitian heritage, personal identity, and the complicated relationship between the person and the performer. Three years in development, the album showcases his guitar skills inside a musical conversation between Haitian kompa, twoubadou, Afro-Caribbean traditions, Latin influences, R&B, and contemporary pop. Prophete also moves between English and Kreyòl, allowing language itself to become part of the album’s cultural expression. What makes that combination particularly interesting is the opportunity for contrasting rhythmic identities: kompa’s dance-oriented pulse, twoubadou’s acoustic storytelling traditions, and the melodic flexibility of modern R&B offer different ways to communicate the same personal experiences. Prophete explains the meaning behind the project’s title:

‘Daniel II Prophete’ is the most personal project I’ve made so far. The title represents that relationship between Daniel and Prophete; the person behind the music and the artist I’ve been building. A lot of the album lives somewhere between those two sides of me.

The result is an ambitious creative premise of twelve songs examining relationships, ambition, belonging, and the distance between who we are and who we hope to become. Collaborations with BélO on Konekte, Jessica Antoine on Toufe, and Z The Vibe Doctor on Pouvwa further reinforce those connections, while Julian Mendoza joins Out Of My Mind and Kafa appears on Yadadiya. That relationship has been developing since Prophete first picked up the guitar at eighteen, eventually studying music business and performance at UMass Lowell before expanding his production knowledge at Berklee. Now writing and producing from his own studio, he approaches music with an understanding of both instrumental craftsmanship and the cultural experiences which inform his compositions. Vibe with “Daniel II Prophete” and explore the stories connecting Prophete heritage, musicianship, and evolving artistry on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter (X), Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
