Jelani Jeffries – 4U: A Love Story @JelaniJeffries

Published

on

Jelani Jeffries’ “4U: A Luv Story” is a romantic tale composed of vivid emotions as a man faces his fear of vulnerability. However, in the process, he realizes that there’s strength in expressing love for someone special in his life. Despite having hidden his deepest feelings throughout the course of their tumultuous, yet fulfilling relationship, he finds the courage to reveal everything he’s felt for “her”, while also conquering the internal battle within — to let the love he’s always had for “her” finally have its chance.

Jelani Jeffries is an ingenious rapper, writer, producer and actor aspiring to elevate in the entertainment industry. A New York suburban native, he continuously strives to make his artistic impact in the Big Apple and beyond.

As early as four years old, Jelani was known by family members for his distinct recitations of scenes from commonly known Walt Disney movies. At the age of 10, Jelani received his first commercial audition for Chuck E. Cheese’s, which resulted in his first booking for a principal acting role.

Consequently, Jelani’s acting career inclined. He booked numerous voiceover, commercial, film and television roles. Such bookings included McDonalds, Southwest Airlines, Pillsbury, Above the Influence, Dominos, Sesame Street, Law and Order: SVU, The Chappelle Show, ABC’s What Would You Do, The Best Thief in the World and Preaching to the Choir.

Moreover, Jelani always admired instrumental sounds. He played the drums throughout his elementary, middle and high school career. As a result, Jelani ventured into the music industry as a hip hop lyricist and producer during his college years. His comprehensive style consists of an infusion of Golden Age hip-hop and trap with delivery and content that resonates with all hip-hop admirers.

His first EP, Microphone Check One, received recognition by the AXE White Label Collective and 10 time Grammy Award winning musician, John Legend. Such an acknowledgment allowed Jelani to participate in the 2015 South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival under the tutelage of Mr. Legend, who hand picked Jelani personally to be a contributing artist.

His more recent EP, Scribble, featured a trap inspired upbeat summer anthem entitled “No Favors”. Highly favored among fans, the music video for “No Favors” received over 10,000 plays on Facebook. The single was also selected by MajorStage, a New York City based music company, for their Best of 2017 Emerging Hip Hop Playlist. Additionally, Scribble was featured on STR8OUTDADEN, a hip-hop blog for underground artists.

Ok-Tho, another blog platform for underground hip-hop artists featured “Second 2 None” a single and music video that Jelani released in 2016 — a boom-bap inspired track filmed in his hometown, Rockland County, NY.

Jelani’s latest EP entitled 4U: A Luv Story, reveals the suburban rapper’s emotional side as he stylistically and creatively expresses his love with a perfect balance of emotional vulnerability and masculinity. Released for Valentine’s Day, Jelani created a short film entitled 4U, a cinematic introduction/teaser for the eight track romantic narrative.

While music continues to be Jelani’s focus, he humbly considers himself to be a jack of all trades. As a young adult, he became inspired to tell stories through film as a freelance videographer, producer and director for commercials, music videos, shows and short films. His works have even been honored at the Urbanworld Film Festival in New York City.

Although Jelani holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from SUNY Empire in Business Management and Economics, he still plans to aggressively pursue his career as a professional artist, while also cultivating his filmmaking and acting capabilities.

Jelani hopes that his talents will be a pivotal and influential part of 21st century culture. Furthermore, he remains faithful to his artistic commandments — to bring about creativity, inspiration, and change.

Curt McGurt – “Journey”

Published

Recently rapper/producer Curt McGurt released his new single “Journey.” The track was released on the heels of Curt McGurt announcing the release of his debut EP called LUKA. Throughout the years Curt has worked with several artists, including Young Dolph, Yella Beezy, Trap Boy Freddy, Asian Doll and Cuban Doll to name a few, but on this track “Journey,” Curt McGurt is playing a different role.

“At the beginning of this year, I said f**k it let me give rapping a shot because it’ll only help my music, not hurt it. So I decided to seriously work on being an artist this year. I knew the business, I’ve built relationships through producing, I know how to record, mix, and master my own music, I know my sound. So I created a motto for myself – Take Advantage of your Advantages. I’ve always been a selfless person and put myself last, but things started really paying off when I put myself first as an artist!”

Adapting to the COVID-19 outbreak, Curt McGurt treated the virus as a blessing in disguise for his music. Focusing on his work and creating music right from the comfort of his home, Curt dialed in on his music full time. Finding new ways to sell his music it’s been easier working remotely than ever and he’s spent more time with his daughter than ever, one of his greatest accomplishments.

“I had some other music I released this year, but it was more like some test runs to see how the process goes of releasing music as an independent artist and learning the analytics side of things,” Curt McGurt explained. “But this record, Journey, is one of my personal favorites. When you listen to the record it really takes you on a wave, on a journey so to speak. I also just wrapped up my first EP called LUKA that I’m looking to drop later this year.”

While “Journey” is a step away from Curt McGurt’s traditional role as a producer, Curt never lost his sense of being a producer and your can hear that on the track.

“I always wanted to stay behind the scenes with music. I would help write for artists, and really produce the record, like coaching rappers on how to hit the melodies and stuff like that. I would still work on songs for myself, as well as creating reference tracks, and people would hear them and say ‘Why the hell you not rapping?'” Curt McGurt jokes. “I had a day where I was feeling creative and I ended up drinking 2 cups of coffee and I started going through beats by Lucas Quinn and came across the beat that would eventually become Journey. As soon as I heard the beat I grabbed the headphones and went into the booth. I closed my eyes and the dreamy guitar melody along with the caffeine just had me feeling like I was on a journey through the clouds of happiness. I didn’t even write anything down, I literally just started going and put the song together in probably 10-15 minutes from scratch! I can’t even tell you how many times I listened to that song when I was done, I knew it was something special!”

Curt McGurt knows the prospects for success are high with his music as the local Dallas music scene has produced a host of talented artists over the past few years including Post Malone, Yella Beezy, Trapboy Freddy and the currently incarcerated Tay-K among others.

“In my opinion, Dallas has an incredible amount of talent overall! From the artists, to the producers and engineers and songwriters. Man we really have some heavyweight sounds out here that can compete with the best in the world,” Curt McGurt said. “We get slept on at times overall, but I feel the industry knows that we have plenty of heat in the DFW metroplex. I’ve worked with a lot of artists out here and I’ve put in my fair share of contributing to the great music being produced out of the city, along with my own music as an artist.”

With a current sound and notions of taking his records to the top, Curt McGurt has focused on creating stadium and arena ready records that will resonate with the masses.

“I aim to create really big sounding records. I don’t want to just go with the wave, I want to create new waves and be bold with my sound and truly use my voice as an instrument. I like to make music that has great overall vibes to it with melodic harmonies and catchy elements that people will remember for years to come,” he said.

Renni Rucci and Kevin Gates link up on the new DJ Chose-produced track, “Hands On Ya Knees.”

In their first collaboration, Rucci uses her vivacious curves and the art of seduction to entice the “2 Phones” hitmaker into spend bags for her attention. Both play off one another with explicitly suggestive lyrics and Rucci races up to the top of the new female-led Hip Hop landscape.

“Kevin actually presented the opportunity to me,” says Renni Rucci. “He had the song and he wanted a female on and he let me have my shot with it. He really was all for helping me excel in my career and has shown a lot of support to me, which I’m very grateful for. I laid my verses and it was all she wrote after that.“

“Hands On Ya Knees” follows Rucci’s previously released “Bag Talk,” the intro track from her Summertime project, QuickTape. The album includes hit singles “Bitch Do It” and “Solid Bitch.”
A video for “Hands On Ya Knees” is in the works. Last August, Rucci posted photos on Instagram of her and Gates in D.C.’s Congress Park on set. The new song is available now on Wolf Pack Global Music Group. Kevin Gates appears courtesy Atlantic Records.

“Hands On Ya Knees” is produced by DJ Chose.
