We have seen a huge move toward acceptance for the trans community in 2014. This can be attributed to their exposure in mainstream media like Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, Amazon’s Transparent, and the overall social climate easing into acceptance for all. This month marks one more step into the right direction with Candy magazine’s issue featuring a 62-page profile, The Role Models. The cover stars four “Glamorous Women Who Lead the Trans Revolution”: Laverne Cox, Janet Mock, Carmen Carrera, and Geena Rocero.
As the 5th anniversary issue, the leading cover ladies plus six other models, writers, musicians, actresses, and more are celebrated for the strides they have gained for their community. The “transversal style magazine” is the first to honor and bring all these women together. This is only the beginning, and we are hopeful 2015 will bring more understanding for trans everywhere.
