S.J. Dub: The Journey of a Hip Hop Artist On The Rise!

Stephon Jacquel Watt, better known by his stage name S.J. Dub, is an American rapper and R&B artist whose roots run deep in New Jersey. Born in 1990 in Neptune and raised in nearby Asbury Park, S.J. Dub’s passion for music sparked early. At just 9 years old, he began singing—so enamored with R&B icon Usher Raymond that he often jokes he thought he was him.

By his early teens, S.J. Dub made the leap from singing to rapping, heavily influenced by Philadelphia battle rap legend Cassidy. His raw talent quickly turned heads in his community. Locals would often stop him in the streets for spontaneous performances, a reflection of his growing neighborhood fame. Encouraged by the support, he began performing at school talent shows at both Asbury Middle School and Asbury Park High School.

Over the years, S.J. Dub has built an impressive résumé, marked by key milestones such as:

  • A feature on a Fat Joe mixtape

  • A recent shoutout from Bobby Shmurda

  • A meeting with executives at Def Jam Recordings

  • An appearance at New York’s Power 105.1, a major hub for hip-hop culture

  • Performances throughout New Jersey, New York, and more recently, Atlanta

Now approaching 35, S.J. Dub once considered stepping away from music in his late 20s. But the steadfast support of his children, family, friends, and fans reignited his commitment. What began as a passionate pursuit has evolved into a promising career, with his music now generating income.

Beyond financial gain, music remains a deeply personal and therapeutic outlet for him. S.J. Dub credits his creativity—and time with his kids and loved ones—as essential to his well-being and resilience.

With eyes on future stages in Florida, Texas, Las Vegas, and even the United Kingdom, he’s focused on expanding his reach and inspiring others through authenticity and determination.

S.J. Dub’s musical catalog is a testament to his consistency and drive. At 15, he recorded his first official track, kicking off a steady studio presence that continues today. His discography now includes hundreds of singles, several EPs, and four full-length albums, all available on major streaming platforms.
