Godspell: Review

Godspell LA

As there aren’t many classic plays that are centered around God, Godspell takes the place as the most invigorating and spiritually pleasing theatrics of our time. Godspell is a 1970’s musical by JohnMichael Tebelak with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz Based upon the Gospel according to St. Matthew. As many renditions of this musical have taken place all over the world, here recently director John K. Wilson brought his version to the Culver City Elks Lodge for an unforgettable experience.  With a fresh, inventive, timeless and original approach, Wilson put together a charismatic cast of performers including Ventus Russell (Jesus), Wilson Bell (John the Baptist/Judas), Adrian McGregor, Austin Kelly, Caeden Harrison, Kellen Gold, Linsey Mitchell, Penny Guieb, Reyna Calvo, and Shannon Burns. With creative choreography by Linsey Mitchell and an impressive score led by musical director Rick Heckman, everyone did an amazing job of crafting the recount of Jesus’ life through relatable parables and melodic storytelling. The modern approach to Godspell that Wilson took, makes it easy to understand not only the importance of Jesus’s life, but the consequences of betrayal, lying, and unforgiveness. Overall Godspell is a must see!If you are in Los Angeles make sure you check it out and learn the story of Jesus Christ. Special shout-out to Expedition Entertainment, Rich Girl Productions and The Culver City Elks for bringing this production together.
