One of the most exciting things about this season of Entertainment is the original, and authentic films that are coming to the forefront of television, film and streaming. One film that is captivating audiences around the world is an independent short film called American Clay. On Monday September 29th, American Clay made its Hollywood debut at Soho House West Hollywood, with a private screening, live cast Q&A, and cocktail hour that brought out industry professionals, film buffs and influencers for an unforgettable night. Directed by Chris Jackson, and written by Aviv Rubinstein, & Vi City, this movie is like nothing you will have ever seen before.

Hosted by Saddleback Media and Hundreds Entertainment, with sponsorship by Aston Martin, the night began with an exquisite cocktail reception overlooking the Hollywood Hills that continued throughout the night. As the screening went under way, guests were ushered into a private screening room where they enjoyed popcorn, and small conversation in anticipation for the main event.

Following the screening, the cast and production crew for American Clay, gave on-lookers a more intimate account of how this film came to life and why it is so important to bring impactful stories to Hollywood. While allowing guests to ask questions, it became clear that strong historical roots, family ties, and ancestral resilience served as the themes for the film, intriguing the minds of everyone in attendance. Guests were seen snapping photos on the American Clay step and repeat, indulging in the open bar and chef curated Hors D’oeuvres as the cast and crew made their way back in the mix for post op interviews. As the movie is based on producers Carmen Perkins and Michelle Taylor’s family story, I spoke to them both about racism in America, why they felt like they had to bring their family story to the big screen and working with music director, producer and co-writer Vi City who also made a cameo.
