FLOPPY LUGGAGE? "Baggage Claim" DEBUTS At #4, RAKES In $9 Million

Paula Patton’s romantic comedy Baggage Claim, made a respectable bow at the box office, taking in over $9 million.  But it will likely be seen as a flop to most.  See how well the rest of the box office did inside…..

With a blitz of publicity, and a cast of highly visible actors (Taye Diggs, Jill Scott, Lala Anthony, Derek Luke), "Baggage Claim" landed in theaters this weekend with a box office gross of $9 million.  

Debuting at #4, the David E. Talbert-directed film didn’t do any Tyler Perry/Madea numbers, or Butler numbers, but it did make a return on its investment (the budget was $8.5M).  

While this isn’t a runaway success, we hope the "respectable" numbers will encourage Hollywood to continue along with its increased interest in Black-led films such as Think Like A Man Too, Best Man Holiday and Black Nativity.

Also, there’s still a chance for an uptick in tickets sales.   Because the flick only opened on 2,000 screens, it could see its box office tally rise (or fall dramatically) based on word of mouth.  Here’s how the rest of the box office looked:
