Super Tazo: From Setbacks to Spotlighting the Next Big Stars

Super Tazo is redefining what it means to nurture talent and guide artists to their full potential as an A&R. His journey in music began in 2006 in Quest’s very first studio, where he consistently honed his craft as an artist. However, a life-altering incident in 2022 left him permanently paralyzed. Instead of stepping away from the industry, Tazo pivoted, focusing his energy on helping others achieve their dreams. “I’d rather help others get there now,” he reflects on his transition into the role of an A&R. Super Tazo’s approach to artist development is both intuitive and hands-on. He describes BGroove as someone who embodies the life he raps about and recalls guiding him to focus on artistry rather than street life. “I met Groove years ago; that’s really family,” he says. His connection with Sadlyhim began through a trending battle of South and North Jersey artists, and while their relationship is newer, Tazo acknowledges him as one of the most talented artists in the state with a strong work ethic. When selecting artists to work with, Tazo prioritizes uniqueness. “Something unfamiliar, something strange, something unique,” he explains. This mindset has led him to champion Bgroove, a clever and explosive lyricist, and Sadlyhim, a self-taught melodic talent. “These two artists belong in the industry for sure,” he states. Tazo’s collaboration with producer Skillzondabeat is deeply rooted in family, as Skillz is his blood brother. Their shared passion for excellence ensures that every instrumental meets the highest standards. “He knows his brand means everything, so he never puts out mediocre instrumentals,” Tazo emphasizes. As a perfectionist, Tazo takes an active role in his artists’ creative processes, particularly with Bgroove, emphasizing the importance of professional presentation and quality. For Sadlyhim, who already has a manager and studio setup, Tazo’s role is more about connecting him with industry leaders and fostering growth. Operating independently as an A&R presents its challenges, especially in a numbers-driven industry. “I have to compete with people who can go to their label and say, ‘Hey, give me a shot,’” Tazo explains. Despite the difficulties, he remains committed to originality and refuses to follow trends. Social media plays a significant role in Tazo’s strategy, as he keeps a close eye on emerging trends and incorporates them into his artists’ content. One of Tazo’s most rewarding projects to date is “Refill,” a collaboration between Skillz and Bgroove, which he describes as a standout track. For aspiring artists looking to catch the attention of A&Rs, Tazo offers straightforward advice: “Be yourself, do it because you love it, and not for likes. Put out good music or get a job.” Looking ahead, his ultimate goal is to see his artists signed and thriving on a major level. While he values independence, he acknowledges that “the biggest artists in the world are signed” and believes his team has the potential to reach those heights. With a roster that includes Bgroove, Sadlyhim, and Skillzondabeat, Super Tazo is confident in their ability to make a lasting impact in the music industry. His story is one of resilience, passion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, proving that even in the face of adversity, greatness can thrive.
