Kweisi & Spike Rebel One Shot Away (feat. teamjohnhill)
The past few years have been somber times in the world. Tragically, the World Health Organization reports that nearly 800,000 people from around the world take their lives via suicide every year. September is National Suicide Prevent Awareness Month. The CDC recently reported that nearly 50,0000 Americans took their lives via suicide in 2022. Amongst young Black males and older Black men, suicide stands as the second and third leading cause of death. This underscores the urgent need for compassion and concern for our loved ones, friends, co-workers, and our neighbors.
Let me introduce you to kweisi (pronounced kway-c), a poet from the renowned south-side of Chicago. A graduate of the class of 1992 from the HBCU, Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. kweisi is also a proud member of the illustrious fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi, Delta Zeta chapter. He further honed his poetic skills during a year of studying abroad in a Literary Master’s Program in Oxford, England.
However, the rudiment of kweisi’s literary journey was marked by tragedy, his younger brother, James Lemar Ford aka Lemont was brutally murdered on Saturday, January 11, 1992. This tumultuous pain turned into seeking external pleasures to escape the pain. When these pleasures did not numb the pain and hurt. kweisi thought of taking his life several times via suicide.
Through the grace of GOD, writing poetry gave kweisi his purpose to live. Writing the poem, one shot away, saved his life, it gave kweisi aplomb about who he is in becoming a writer, better man and a poet. Writing inspired kweisi not to manifest the dark thoughts of suicide in reality. one shot away is up For Consideration for BEST SONG FOR SOCIAL CHANGE for the 66TH Grammy Awards. kweisi’s spoken word poetry album; the truth. the way. the life. with music producer Spike Rebel featuring TeamJohnHill is up for consideration for the 66TH Grammy Awards in five other categories. It’s been quite a summer for one of our winners of the 2024 Road to the Giveback. We haven’t seen much of him since he was on Monday Night Rawrr back at our first studio. He cohosted a few episodes of Welcome to the Rawrrzone, but the multi-talented singer had slipped under our radar for the last few years. In 2024, he announced that not only would he be ghostwriting and helping independent artists, but he also decided to grace the stage again with new material, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this rising young artist.
“Temperature,” the debut single from the Brownsville native, is a declaration of the heat Banton will bring this summer. Kicking off his run with his love of dancehall, the young artist had us dancing in our seats during his Road to the Giveback performance. On the first listen, the melody takes us back to the late ’90s and early ’00s, reminiscent of Tanto Metro and Devante when parties blasted “Everyone Falls In Love Sometimes.” As for his sound, we hear a mature version of his former counterpart Lex Banton, infused with his real-life persona Joshua, the music lover who understands the game and what a hit song sounds like. His voice flows smoothly with the beat, and you don’t hear the pressure in his voice like in songs such as “Legendary” and his past collective group music.
We see this young talent going places this summer, and 2024 is shaping up to be his year.
For the first time in over a year, we have a new single from the Bronx’s own Saay Park. For those who may not know, Saay Park was one of our inaugural guests on “Welcome to the Rawrrzone” seven years ago. Since his appearance, he has continued to mesmerize his audience with his diverse sounds and larger-than-life performances, featuring notable artists such as ARP Musiq, Kony Brooks, and more.
His long-awaited single, “Cool,” takes us back to the essence of R&B, channeling the emotions of a broken love and the longing for someone who does not want you. Everyone has that one person it didn’t work out with, and we hope to stay friends and “cool” with them. The production behind the song truly brings the entire piece together, as the beat complements Saay’s mellow harmonies, taking you through the love-struck single.

utive produced by S-Rock, his latest track “#WeOutside” is set to become the anthem for New York’s independent scene in 2024.
Infamous Ty debuted “#WeOutside” at the Memorial Day Weekend Massacre, captivating the audience with a suspenseful intro. His ability to flip a sample and merge old-school lyricism with a drill beat is impressive. Since collaborating with the Titan of Rap, Ty has displayed newfound confidence and improved audience engagement.
The performance at the Memorial Day Weekend Massacre had everyone moving in sync with his lyrics, sliding left and right. This single has the potential to hit FM radio and beyond. The sky is the limit for Infamous Ty.
