Black History Month is in full effect all over the United States celebrating black culture and excellence. As a result, there are several organizations, programming, and activities that are utilizing their resources to uplift and educate African American communities in the greater Los Angeles area.
Faith in Action Ministries, a 501(c)(3) faith based nonprofit, teamed up with We Grow LA to host their 2nd annual “Love Thy Neighbor” Community Luncheon. Taking place at the infamous Slauson Swap meet (The Slauson), guests were seen indulging in free tacos, soft drinks, laughter, Kendrick’s historic year, and most importantly prayer.
What made this event so special is that there was a prayer booth set up for anyone who needed prayer. Accompanied with free bibles, positive messages and giveaways, there was something for every guest in attendance to revel in, while staying in a high frequency energy.
As Faith in Action Ministries is dedicated to serving communities by mirroring Christ’s example of loving thy neighbor, they exemplified that by opening this event to anyone in need of a little extra love and food. Partnering with We Grow LA , an organization dedicated to changing the food insecurity problem in Los Angeles, brought out people from all walks of life and backgrounds.
Overall this event showed the importance of community, team building, and fellowship, while acknowledging how important The Slauson is to the African American community and history. Faith In Action Ministries and We Grow LA will continue to restore the community, while being a guiding light to those in need.
